Image description

This animation shows the process I used to make the cover for 'The Sleeping garden'.

Beginning with observational drawing and photographic references informing imagination, the individual elements were worked up on cartridge paper, first in graphite pencil and then coloured pencil (Faber Castell Polychromos), gradually building up layers of colour , tone and shadow using tracing paper. Each layer was scanned and assembled in Adobe Photoshop to enhance and intensify the colours. Finally colours were balanced, images cleaned up and fine detail added with Photoshop brushes.

Layout is Adobe InDesign.
