The illustration process for the pictures in 'The Sleeping Garden' is very long and intricate.

Sketches are laid out in pencil, created from my imagination with reference to observational drawings I have made from life or from photographs and videos.

Building up layers  in coloured pencil or watercolour, gradually, by scanning and importing into Photoshop the final illustration is created, adding fine detail and finishing touches digitally.

Each illustration can be made up of hundreds of individual layers and can take up to six weeks to complete.

For the past ten years I have been working on this labour of love.

Inspired by the story of the Lost Gardens of Heligan, this modern day fairy tale is for young and old (and anyone who loves nature and pictures!).
